CoCo & Dean Fills a Void in Children's Literature
My kids loved this book and I do too. Although there is a wealth of literature available for adults about environmental awareness, I have seen very little for children. CoCo and Dean: Explorers of the World helps to fill this void. CoCo and Dean are likeable and relatable characters making discoveries about the environment and taking our child readers on those adventures with them. The messages being conveyed about the importance of being environmentally responsible are easy to understand, and we are even given the gift of experiencing CoCo and Dean’s emotional journeys as they realize hard truths about how we have treated our planet thus far. We purchased several copies of this book during pre-sale and have been giving them as birthday gifts at children’s parties. The gifts have been very popular with the kids and with the parents, too! In CoCo & Dean, Explorers of the World, storyteller Emily Scofield, enjoyably weaves lessons of environmental awareness for children. The footprint Ms. Scofield leaves in her first literary work is the very best kind -- one of education tied to responsibility and patterning one's actions and life toward leaving our fragile planet stronger than we inherited it. CoCo & Dean's journeys will open a child's eyes to the importance of nature, service, heritage, respect and understanding that we are all interconnected. Well done, Ms. Scofield! By: L.. Cooke

Helping kids make the planet betterThere is no doubt about it Emily Scofield hit it out of the park with CoCo and Dean. What a great way to relate the Built Environment to Children. Written in story form it challenges parents and children to be good Stewards of the Environment as they travel along with CoCo and Dean all over the World. Easy reading and great study questions throughout the book. Making it fun reading at home or a good teaching tool in the classroom.
I highly recommend it ........and even Mom and Dad can learn a thing or two about saving the planet...Bought two for my Grandchildren to get in touch with being Green as they Grow ! By: W. Newton |
A great family bookFinally! A kids book that has an environmental preservation message and then challenges the reader with questions to think about these issues further. Coco and Dean are two playful kids that instantly draw the young reader to their adventure and therefore relating to their view of the environment is a natural part of the story. I appreciated the questions at the end of each story as my children where challenged to think about how the story related to their own experiences and they, in turn, asked me some good questions. This is a good family book. By: A.J. Pruess

Fabulous children's bookI bought Coco and Dean to read with my son (soon to be 5). We both enjoyed the way the book was organized into stand alone stories which included engaging dialogue and new vocabulary. We loved the family interactions and the storytelling was fun and relatable. The environmental lessons all involved practical solutions to get kids thinking about their footprint and inspire them to take action in their community. This would make an excellent tool for teachers looking to incorporate environmental education into their classroom. I'd recommend this book to anyone! By: S.E. Montgomery
